Let's Talk SPF!

Let’s Talk SPF!

One of the most common questions I get in the treatment room is about sunscreen. The truth? The biggest mistakes I see aren’t about the SPF number—since SPF 30 already blocks about 97% of UVB rays—but more about how it's used.

Tip: Reapplying sunscreen and wearing physical barriers like hats are just as important—if not more—than choosing SPF 50+ over SPF 30. No sunscreen can protect you 100%, so layering your defense is key!

I'm wearing my favorite sun hat in this photo, and it's more than just a fashion statement—it’s one of my favorite forms of physical protection.

Here are a few more sun-smart tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing all year:

Wear a hat – Wide-brimmed is best to shield your face, neck, and ears.
Reapply sunscreen – Every 2 hours, or after swimming/sweating.
Don’t skip cloudy days – UV rays can still reach your skin.
Cover up – Long sleeves, sunglasses, and SPF clothing are all great tools.
Seek shade – Especially between 10 AM–4 PM, when the sun is strongest.
Go water-resistant – Choose a formula that holds up to sweat and water.

Bottom line: Sunscreen is your skin’s best friend, but only when used correctly and combined with other smart sun habits.

Stay protected, stay radiant!
